Profile of H. E. Ambassador Diana Acconcia, Head of European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana

Diana Acconcia was born in Italy. She has a degree in Political Sciences and a Masters in International marketing.

She joined the European Commission in 1995, occupying various positions in the domain of international relations and trade. 

From 1995 to 2000 Diana was a case-handler in the Trade Defence Directorate, in charge of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations and subsequently of inquiries under the Trade Barriers Regulation. Between 2000 and 2002, she was coordinator of the EU trade relations with Canada and Mexico.  She served in the Delegation of the European Commission to Uruguay and Paraguay between 2002 and 2006 as Head of the Political, Trade and Communication section. 

She also served as trade negotiator, coordinating the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with East and Southern Africa (ESA) and with East African Community (EAC) from 2006 to 2007.  The agreement she negotiated has been applicable since 2012.

From 2008 – 2011, Diana Acconcia was Deputy Head of Unit in charge of agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology issues in DG TRADE.  In particular, she followed the negotiations of the agriculture chapter of the WTO Doha Development Round negotiations and of the agriculture chapters of EU FTAs with third countries.

Diana Acconcia was also Deputy Head of Unit for relations with East and South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand from 2012 – 2015. During the period, she was also Deputy Chief Negotiator for the FTA between the EU and Thailand.  From 2016 to 2018, she was Head of Unit for relations with Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, and directly managed 24 people in Brussels and EU Delegations.  Her main task was to coordinate the implementation of the seven Economic Partnership Agreements in force with ACP countries and regions, as well as the relations with the ACP institutions and with African Union in the trade domain.

She took up the appointment as the Head of the European Union Delegation to Ghana in October 2018.

Diana Acconcia is married with one child.  She speaks Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. In her spare time, Diana enjoys travelling, reading, swimming and scuba diving.
